This is an introduction to lifecasting class. In this class students will learn how to use alginate, hydrocal, and wax to make single use molds of the face, hands, and other body parts. Using alginate (Algi-Safe, Smooth-On) you can safely cast molds of the skin and body.  It reproduces fine detail and makes an excellent temporary mold – good for one or two reproductions of any body part with plaster, wax and many other products.

Class time includes:

A) Instruction regarding SAFETY and materials set up for various casting practices

B) Instructor Demonstration:

  1. Mixing and casting with Alginate for appendages and vertical body surfaces.

  2. Mixing and pouring plaster(hydrocal) to create a strong and detailed casting out of alginate mold.

  3. Heating and pouring wax methods to create solid and hollow wax castings using an alginate or plaster mold that can be used for future lost-wax mold-making and metal casting processes.

C) Student Work Time:

  1. Make an Alginate mold of body appendage or instructor approved small object of stuents choice.

  2. Use the Alginate mold they made to then make original Plaster Casting to take home and reproduce on their own.

D) Clean Up!

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!
