Intro to Soldering

We reserve the right to postpone or cancel any course without notice. Attendees may cancel up to 48 hours in advance without penalty. Cancellations up to 24 hours in advance incur no penalty if the minimum number of attendees is maintained. Otherwise, and always in the case of no-shows (except in the cases of medical emergency and family bereavement) a 100% penalty of the tuition (not including materials fees, if any) is levied.

In this class, students will learn the basics of soldering wires, circuit boards and other electronic components. Students will also learn how to de-solder components and tin wires for ease of connectivity. 



After learning the basics, student will assemble a working digital clock on a circuit board during the second portion if the class. 





The topics presented in this class include:

  • Safety- Safety goggles recommended. Proper handling techniques and caution given the high heat soldering irons.
  • Tinning- Demonstrate how to tin a soldering iron tip for most efficient performance.
  • Wire Soldering- Provide proper technique to join two or more wires.
  • Circuits- Learn how to solder components on a circuit board for maximum effectiveness and how to de-solder and remove if necessary.
  • Maintenance- Learn how to maintain and care for soldering iron tip to ensure optimal performance.
  • Accessories- Discover helpful tools to aid in certain tasks such as helping hands, solder braid, and vacuum de-solder stations.
